On 23-24 October, the BAXERNA consortium gathered at Institut Pasteur for our 2025 Consortium Meeting. A big thank you to all of the attendees for lively and productive discussions, to External Board members Geert Leroux-Roels and Willem Hanekom for their feedback, and to Caroline Demangel and her team for hosting the event!

BAXERNA conference coming March 2026!

We are thrilled to announce the first edition of Next-generation mRNA Vaccines Against Complex Pathogens, taking place 25-26 March 2026 in Leuven, Belgium. This international conference will feature keynote lectures by Pieter Cullis and Drew Weissman and bring together leading experts in all phases of mRNA vaccine development against complex pathogens, from antigen discovery to real-world translation. Conference Season

Fall 2024 was packed with conferences for the BAXERNA consortium! Rein Verbeke from GRGN, UGent and Karin Loré from Karolinska presented their work on mRNA vaccines at the mRNA Conference in Szeged, Hungary, co-organized by Nobel laureates Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman. Francis Impens from VIB showcased his group’s immunopeptidomics pipeline and Jose Castillo highlighted Quantoom’s manufacturing innovations at the 12th International mRNA Health Conference. Fabien Thery and Laura Van Moortel from the Impens lab presented their immunopeptidomics work at SMAP2024 and BePAc24. Holger Heyn and Christian Brander shared Omniscope’s AI-powered immune profiling capabilities at WVCE2024. BAXERNA project manager Lyudmila Kovalchuke introduced the project at the 7th Global Forum on TB Vaccines. Finally, RheaVita picked up the top prize for Manufacturing Excellence at CPHI 2024 🎉.
